Privacy policy

The short version: your personal data never leaves your device. Your health data, the names and dates you enter, and everything the app writes about them stay on your iPhone. The only things that touch a server are anonymous subscription bookkeeping and anonymous usage statistics, handled by three industry-standard services (RevenueCat, Superwall and PostHog). Humblebrag has no accounts, no advertising, and no data-broker involvement of any kind.

Health data

With your permission, Humblebrag reads activity data from Apple Health (steps, walking and running distance, flights climbed, active energy) on your device only, to compute the comparisons shown in the app. Health data is read on demand and never written, never transmitted anywhere — not to us, not to RevenueCat, not to Superwall, not to anyone — never used for advertising or any form of data mining, and never stored in iCloud by the app. You can revoke access at any time in the Health app (Profile → Privacy → Apps → Humblebrag).

Data you enter

Dates, names and settings you add (for example a pet’s birthday) are stored only on your device. Text derived from your data, such as cached comparison lines, is likewise stored only on your device. Like most app data, this local storage is included in your own device backups (iCloud or computer backups that you control). Deleting the app deletes all of its data.

On-device AI

Comparison phrasing may be rewritten by Apple’s on-device foundation model. This runs entirely on your device; nothing is sent to any server, including Apple’s.

Purchases and subscriptions

Payment itself is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment details, name, or Apple Account information.

Three services receive anonymous bookkeeping, all tied to a randomly generated anonymous ID — never your name, email or any account, because Humblebrag has no accounts. RevenueCat gets purchase events (which product, when, renewal state) so your subscription survives reinstalls. Superwall gets paywall interaction events and basic device info. PostHog (US-hosted) gets anonymous usage events — screens opened, buttons tapped. Deleting the app severs the identifier permanently.

None of them receives your health data, your names and dates, or anything you see inside the app. None may use this data for advertising, and nothing is used to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

This website (analytics and cookies)

Everything above describes the iPhone app. This section is about humblebragapp.app, the website you are reading now, which is separate.

When analytics are on, we use PostHog to understand how the site is used. It records which pages you open, clicks and scrolling, your approximate location derived from your IP address (country, region and city, not a street address), and your device, browser and language. It also records an anonymous session replay: a reconstruction of your visit as a sequence of page events, so we can see where the site is confusing. Anything typed into a field is masked and never recorded.

When they are off, none of that happens. No analytics cookies are set, no events are sent and no replay is recorded. The site works identically either way, because nothing on it depends on analytics.

What happens before you choose depends on where you are. In the EU, the UK, Switzerland and the rest of the EEA nothing is collected until you accept the banner. Elsewhere, including the United States, analytics start on and you can turn them off at any time — that is the opt-out model California and the other US state privacy laws are built around. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal we treat it as an opt-out automatically, everywhere, without you clicking anything.

We use this only to improve the site. It is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shared with data brokers. See PostHog's privacy policy.

Notifications

If you enable milestone reminders, they are scheduled locally on your device. No notification content passes through any server.

Links to Wikipedia

Fact links open Wikipedia in an in-app Safari view. That browsing happens in Safari’s own sandboxed context, subject to Wikimedia’s privacy policy; Humblebrag cannot see it.

Data collection summary

Under Apple’s App Privacy definitions, Humblebrag collects purchase history, device identifiers and product interaction (paywall events) — used for app functionality and analytics, not linked to your identity, and not used for tracking.

Everything else — health data, dates, names, generated text — is not collected: it never leaves your device. We have no way to identify you from what we hold. Deletion requests can be honoured by deleting the app (local data) and contacting us to relay an anonymous-ID deletion to the services above.

Children

Humblebrag is not directed at children and collects nothing that could identify a child. The App Store age rating is 13+.
