How many flights of stairs is the Empire State Building?

About 103 flights to the 86th-floor observatory — 1,576 steps. The official Empire State Building Run-Up uses that route. Counting to the 102nd floor takes it to roughly 1,860 steps, and Apple Health counts one flight as about 10 feet of climb, so your watch will register close to 103.

The gap between 1,576 and 1,860 steps is not a disagreement — it is two different destinations. Most sources quote the 86th floor because that is where the observatory and the race finish are; the 102nd-floor deck adds another sixteen storeys on top.

Flights are the one Apple Health metric that already feels physical, which makes them the easiest to compare. A tower is just a number of flights stacked in one place.
